The STVHCS is looking for a Hospitalist.The position is located at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital in San Antonio, TX. Medicine service at the Audie L. Murphy Veterans Hospital currently consists of 17 hospitalists, 2 Nocturnist, 2 Nurse practitioners, other subspecialties and addition nursing and administrative staff. The facility has 300+ inpatient beds. Medicine service also has a strong teaching affiliation with University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA.) Academic appointment with UTHSCSA may be expected. Supervision of Nurse Practitioners is required.
Scope of Duties:
In addition to observances of Federal, National and local regulatory, policy, and accreditation requirements governing this Health Care System, this position encompasses the following examples of responsibilities overseen by their Section Chief.
Administrative Duties: Leadership, Human Resources, Staff management, Time/Leave management, and Clinical management.
Clinical Duties: Patient care, Medical/Clinical knowledge, Clinical judgment, Interpersonal and communication skills, Professionalism, and system based practice.
Education: Practitioners are expected to show effectiveness in teaching, monitor and coordinate educational activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision.
Research Duties (If applicable): Physician researchers will show an ability to identify and define significant research and developmental problems, to plan and execute a precise research program, and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication.
* Average 40 hours per week.
* 38-42 weeks of inpatient care per year
* On call may be required depending on assignment
Citizenship of the United States.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Board certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine (or IM subspecialty)
Experience Teaching/Evaluating Internal Medicine Residency or Fellowship Program.
Experience in admissions and acute care procedures.
Active adult patient care duties in Inpatient Internal Medicine Setting within the last 2 years.
Evidence of some form of scholarly activity (Poster/Meeting Presentation/Educational Lectures/Equivalent)
Experience with Electronic Medical Records.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
