The Sleep Technician is responsible for performing polysomnographic and all other neurophysiologic studies. This includes the preparation of laboratory facilities and equipment, preparation of patients for recording data acquisition for all tests performed in the laboratory (these tests include the NPSG, MSLT, MWT, EEG and research protocols). The Sleep Technician is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of data collected in the laboratory.
This position requires at least one year of experience in a sleep disorders center or laboratory at or above the level of Junior Technologist I or its equivalent.
The employee must exhibit proficiency in polysomnographic testing, and must be able to conduct the essential technical components of sleep laboratory studies (including NPSG, MSLT, CPAP/BiPAP titration and research protocols). Related duties include venipuncture, EKG, vital signs, neurological safety assessments and psychometric assessments.
A B.A. or B.S. degree is required or relevant experience. Individuals with advanced or graduate degrees are desired.
Certification in basic cardiopulmonary life support is required, and periodic recertification is mandatory.
Competency in all job-related skills must be exhibited and documented prior to assuming this position.
The Senior Technologist II must be able to interact well with patients, must be able to work independently, and must be able to assume responsibilities for laboratory operation and patient care in the absence of the Chief Technologist, Team Leader or Senior Technologist I.
