Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner, Addiction Medicine

The Geisinger Addiction Medicine program is looking for a Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) or Physician’s Assistant (PA-C) to work in our growing Medication Assisted Treatment Program. The incumbent will practice in an outpatient setting at Geisinger in Williamsport, and will work on a multidisciplinary team that provides MAT to individuals with an opioid or alcohol use disorder. Applicants must possess an active PA license, and the requisite DATA2000 Waiver that governs the prescription of buprenorphine to treat addiction. Preference will be given to applicants that possess or are close to qualifying for a limit of 100 buprenorphine patients.
Provides direct care to psychiatric inpatients under the clinical supervision of the attending psychiatrist. Actively participates as a member of the inpatient treatment team and works collaboratively with other behavioral health professionals. Obtains patient data, monitors symptoms, provides input into diagnostic assessment, gives orders for treatment and care and contributes to the overall care of the patient in collaboration with the attending physician. Works with other healthcare professionals within the hospital to provide quality care. Completes documentation in a timely and thorough manner in keeping with Geisinger standards. Provides services within the scope of an Advance Practitioner. Reports to the Operations Manager for the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Requires Degree of professional training to qualify legally and professionally as a physician assistant. Able to perform all services indicated by the Pennsylvania State Board of Licensure as described in the Policy and Procedure Manual for Utilization of Physician Assistants within Geisinger Medical Center. Must have current NCCPA certification and be licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. Experience in a professional psychiatric setting required such as an inpatient unit or outpatient clinic preferred.
The successful Physician Assistant candidate will work under the responsibility and supervision of the physician and require completion of an ARC-PA (or predecessor organization) approved physician assistant program, current NCCPA certification or eligibility and Pennsylvania State licensure. The successful Nurse Practitioner candidate will work in collaboration with the physician and have a certificate of completion from an approved program for Nurse Practitioners or be eligible to hold national certification that allows the NP to work with the patient populations and location settings associated with this position. Must be eligible for licensure as a nurse practitioner in the state of PA.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Primary work setting is that of medical office/clinic with work in general medical hospital setting and intensive care setting. Ability to lift 20 lbs.
