Is responsible for the delivery of patient care within the specialty practice of the patient care unit. Care is delivered through the use of the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Nursing care considers physical, psychosocial, cultural, age, and spiritual needs of the patient, as appropriate to the population served. Is responsible for directing the work of licensed and unlicensed personnel. Completes annual mandatory training classes and competency testing. Client and family interactions occur in accordance with the customer service standards of the institution. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Current licensure, or temporary permit, to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Current BLS certification. At least five years of clinical nursing experience in medical-surgical nursing in the acute care setting, with no less than two years of experience occurring within the last three years. Previous experience in ambulatory surgery preferred ACLS within one year of hire. For Registered Nurses with less than five (5) years work experience as an RN, a BSN degree is required or enrollment in a BSN program within 12 months of hire date with BSN degree completed within 4 years of hire date is required. For Registered Nurses with more than 5 years of work experience as an RN in an acute/inpatient capacity, a BSN degree is not required. For current Geisinger Registered Nurses who transfer into this position, BSN degree is preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
