Nemours is seeking a CASUAL Cardiac Perfusionist to join our Nemours Children's Hospital Cardiac team in Orlando, Florida

Our 100-bed pediatric hospital also features the area's only 24-hour Emergency Department designed just for kids as well as outpatient pediatric clinics including several specialties previously unavailable in the region. Share responsibility for all aspects of extracorporeal life support, including, but not limited to, initiation and operation of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and ventricular assist devices (VADs), and the training and supervision of ECMO specialists and associated clinical staff caring for ECMO and VAD patients. Serve as an integral team member to the perfusion team who select, prepare, and operate the extracorporeal circuit and all ancillary equipment used in cardiac and non-cardiac surgical procedures and long-term circulatory support. Works in close cooperation with the surgical/medical team in the extracorporeal perfusion process during routine and emergency open-heart procedures. The position actively supports the Hospitals and the department's continuous quality improvement and customer service goals, through modeling of appropriate behavior and by providing a work environment conducive to attaining these goals.
Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by employee’s supervisor.
Functions as a clinician, with advanced knowledge and skills, delivering direct care to patients and their families on site at Nemours Children’s Hospital and offsite during ECMO and VAD transports.
Demonstrates skill in all areas of the direct care of ECMO patients including priming and component changes to the ECMO circuit.
Ensures all ECMO and VAD systems are functional and set up for emergency use.
Schedules ECMO staff to ensure 24/7 coverage of in-house ECMO Specialists in conjunction with the departmental managers of the NICU, PICU, CICU, and Respiratory Therapy.
Reviews all ECMO and VAD related policies and procedures on an annual basis and ensures compliance with these procedures for all ECMO Specialists.
Share on-call responsibilities with Perfusion Team
Provides a timely communication link between staff and leadership through ongoing communication with the Medical Director of the ECMO program and the Director of Cardiac Services regarding the administration of the ECMO program. Works with all members of the multidisciplinary ECMO team in carrying out the responsibilities of the ECMO program.
Bachelor's degree required
Current certified Clinical Perfusionist by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or certification eligible
Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
Minimum of one year Perfusionist experience required
