3 Dawson is a 35 bed Medical Oncology unit; private and semi-private rooms. Caring for a variety of medical patients and specializing in Medical Oncology, this unit provides a holistic approach to the care of the cancer patient through inpatient and outpatient modalities. Offering a comprehensive program, this unit is dedicated to providing excellent care to the individual and family experiencing cancer. Our nurse to patient ratio of 5:1.
4 Dawson is a 39-bed unit and provides general medical care as well as peritoneal dialysis, both on the unit and elsewhere in the facility. Other treatments and therapies include but are not limited to: Glucose monitoring and management; Telemetry; Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapies and Respiratory therapy. Top three diagnosis related groups are Septicemia, Pneumonia, Cellulitis, and Renal Failure. Average length of stay is 4.2 days. The nurse to patient ratio is 5:1.
The Observation Care Center is a fast paced, 19 bed, observation-patient center. Patients are primarily those with minimal co-morbidities, and specific problems needing short term care to determine if they would benefit from further treatment as a hospital inpatient or if they are able to be discharged from the hospital and be treated Out-Patient. The department is open 24/7 and is made up of RNs and Unit Techs. The OCC care-team works closely with mid-levels/physicians to constantly evaluate the status of patients to make determinations about their care. The nurse to patient ratio is generally 5:1.
4 Ornelas, Neuro/Medical is a 33 bed unit with all private rooms. We serve a variety of medical patients and specialize in Strokes and Seizures. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:4 or 5. We pride ourselves on solid team work and providing great care for our patients and families.
5 Ornelas is a 50 bed post-surgical/trauma unit which cares for patients who have medical/surgical/trauma illness and are in need of acute care. Length of stay is 3.6 days with a nurse to patient ratio of 1:4-5. This fast paced unit has excellent patient satisfaction scores and great teamwork.
6 Ornelas is a 51-bed unit (13 -- spine; 15 -- fragility hip fracture; 23 -- joint replacement). General orthopedic, urology and medical/surgical overflow patients are also admitted to the unit. 6 Ornelas is designated to provide care to patients with special needs requiring surgical evaluation, intervention, and post-operative care with emphasis on fragility hip fractures, joint and spine musculoskeletal disorders/injuries, and genitourinary system conditions. Frequent procedures involve, but are not limited to surgical intervention for the top DRGs as well as genitourinary cases. Frequent nursing procedures include, but are not limited to blood transfusions, dressing changes, wound care, pain management, oral, parenteral, and intravenous medication administration, hemodynamic monitoring, nursing assessment, and patient/family education. The average length of stay is 3.5 days. Nurse to patient ratio is 1:4-5
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Minimum requirement is an Associate Degree in Nursing; Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Must be licensed as Registered Nurse with the State of Texas
CPR Certification through the American Heart Associate or American Red Cross
1 year experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting is preferred
