Cardiology is the branch of medical science concerned with the study and treatment of cardiovascular disease. As a subspecialty of Internal Medicine, Cardiology board-certification is regulated by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM requires certification in internal medicine (successful completion of three years of residency training in internal medicine) and three additional years in an accredited cardiology fellowship program.
