POSITION DESCRIPTION: The cardiovascular invasive technologist (CVT) works as a member of the Cardiovascular Cath Lab (CCL) team of medical professionals. Under direction of the CCL Director, and manager the CVT is responsible for assisting physicians during diagnostic & interventional procedures by performing Scrub, Circulator, or Monitor functions. The technologist is responsible for the operation & maintenance of equipment and supplies in the CCL. The technologist must possess the knowledge & skills level of basic and complex invasive procedures which may include Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), stents, IABP placement and operation, thrombolysis procedures, coils, impella , cardiac device implantations and peripheral interventions. The CVT is responsible for patient safety in the CCL and must be able to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and respond according to emergency protocols, operate external cardiac pacemaker and defibrillator. The technologist must be willing and able to rotate through the following roles:
1.Scrub Performs surgical prep and draping of the patient, assists the physician with equipment operation & device preparation. Equipment includes needles, wires, catheters, and medications. 2.Circulator Moves about the lab during the procedure providing equipment to the scrub tech. as needed. Attends to the needs of the patient as well as ensuring proper use of patient monitoring equipment. Assists in adhering to aseptic sterile technique. 3.Monitor Monitors vital signs during the procedure. Documents the procedure and creates a medical record. Records intra-cardiac/arterial pressures and waveforms. Is responsible for interdepartmental communications.
QUALIFICATIONS: 1.Certificate in surgical scrub tech, Invasive Cardiovascular Technology and/or successful completion of the Fountain Valley Hospital approved training program. 2.Minimum of one years experience in a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory preferred. 3.Certification in Basic Cardiopulmonary Life Support, must obtain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support prior to hire , 12 or 15 lead EKG interpretation, Advanced Hemodynamic Monitoring within 6 months of hire date. 4.Begin preparation for successful completion of the Registered Cardiovascular Interventional Specialist (RCIS) to be completed within three years of employment. 5.Ability to stand for periods of time in excess of three hours.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: BLS and ACLS 1.Required skills and abilities: ï¿½Fluent in medical terminology ï¿½Demonstrates the principals of surgical asepsis ï¿½Attends to details ï¿½Understands cardiovascular patho-physiology ï¿½Read a 12 lead EKG ï¿½Identifies lethal arrhythmias 100% of the time ï¿½Identify normal versus abnormal intra cardiac and peripheral pressure waveforms ï¿½Work as a member of a team ï¿½Willingness to adhere to a code of medical ethics ï¿½Fluent in English ï¿½Keep critical skills current ï¿½Maintain high standards to achieve quality patient care ï¿½Operation of the physiologic and radiographic equipment in a safe and efficient manner 2.Annual Requirements: Cardiac Cath Lab skills competencies TB Screening Completes annual mandatory education requirements ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: ï¿½Must be able to respond to the Hospital Cath Lab for ï¿½on-callï¿½ emergencies within 30 minutes when scheduled as part of the Emergency Cardiac Cath Lab Team. Must be willing / able to work weekend call assignments as scheduled. ï¿½Must have good bilateral finger dexterity, good hearing and vision in low light conditions, and ability to stand for prolonged periods. ï¿½Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds.
