The Cardiovascular InvasiveSpecialist (CVIS) wil l utilize professionalcardiovascular theory, technology and processes to implement directpatient care on adult patients that require diagnostic or therapeuticprocedures within the cardiovascular service. Demonstrates role-specificcompetence and assists physicians in diagnosing and treati ng cardiac andperipheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias in the CathLab, EPLab, and Hybrid OR specializing in the care of patients unde rgoingangioplasty, stent placement, vascular procedures, mechanical supp ortdeviceplacement(IABP, non-durable ventricular assist device, etc.), E Pdevices, cardiac ablations, and tilt table exams. Work Perf ormedAssist the physician during invasive and noninvasive proced ures to treatcardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhyth mias.Maintain high standards to achievequality patient care. Communicat econtinuously with the physician about the patient's condition.May perfo rmany of the following: diagnostic catheterization procedureson adult p atients with known and suspected congenital and acquiredcardiac and peri pheral vascular disease. Interventional procedures whichmay include any of the following: PTCA, stent prep and placement, IABPplacement and oper ation. EP proceduresmay include any of the following;EP studies, implant ation of pacemaker, ICD, cardiacablations, and tilttable exams.Procedura l requirements: Room preparation and breakdown including butnot limited to,radiographic, hemodynamic and computer setup, stockingrooms and room cleanup. Prepare sterile field appropriately forspecified procedure typ e.Evaluate the status of the patient during the procedure; provide age a ndgender specific care, prep access siteaccording to lab standardpracti ce, and perform EKGlead placement, blood pressure and pulseoximetry setu p for hemodynamic monitoring.Acquire and accurately document pertinent p atient data in the electronichealth record and enter into hemodynamic an d X-ray systems.Operate all physiologic and radiographic equipment safet y and correctly.Assess procedure room for equipment functioning and read iness. Obtainsupplies for individual cases and ensure all appropriate ne eds of theCath Lab/EP Labteam are met. Observe occupational and radiatio n safetyregulations (wearing dosimeter badges, lead aprons, goggles).Edu cate the patient of procedure expectations before, during and afterthe p rocedure including post-procedural limitations and restrictions.Particip ate in performance improvement activities. Minimum Qualifications EducationA graduate of an associate or baccalaureate academic program in health science (including, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology or respiratory therapy) ExperienceNo experience required Degrees,Licensures, CertificationsRCIS, RCES, ARRT - RTR, ARRT - Radiography (R), ARRT - Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI) , ARRT - Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV), ARRT - Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI), or IBHRE certification within 36 months of employment. Basic Life Support Certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification required within 6 months of employment (Adult Cath, Adult EP, & Hybrid OR only). Duke employees in the CVIS job classificationas of January 1, 2016 who were not eligible for certification will be exempt from the certification requirements of the CVIS I.
