The RN in the Department of Radiology Department shall be responsible and accountable for the delivery of individualized nursing care of adult patients having an interventional radiology procedure. The RN will demonstrate effective communication and work effectively with patients, physicians and co-workers. The Nurse must be able to monitor EKG screens and other equipment used to assess and monitor the patient during procedures. They must be able to collect, interpret, document and communicate pertinent data that is relevant to the patient's care during an interventional radiology procedure (includes pre-and post-procedure data). They shall demonstrate professional commitment and involvement to expand knowledge and to upgrade skills to ultimately improve patient care. They will be able to appropriately monitor, interpret, intervene, and document cardiac rhythm/rate,hemodynamic parameters, oxygen saturation, level of consciousness (LOC), and level of pain. They may initiate IV access and maintain accurate administration of IV solutions/medications. They may administer IV push drugs or drips with approval and supervision of the physician. They may collect specimen samples for laboratory analysis. They must provide nursing care to the critically ill patient in the interventional radiology division of the department, allowing personnel to remain in their specialty areas. Functions as a patient advocate, explaining procedures to the patient and/or his family pre-, intra-, and post-procedure), preparing and evaluating patient teaching materials and ensuring patient's rights are respected and protected. She/he communicates regularly with nurse managers, physicians, nursing supervisors, charge nurses, transfer coordinators, healthcare technicians, Pharmacy, and the business office. The RN's role will include, but is not limited to the following duties: - Establishing nursing diagnoses.- Providing health education and procedural teaching to patients and significant others.- Administering and evaluating pharmacological and other therapeutic treatment regimens.- Establishing priorities and making ethically-sound decisions to ensure safe patient care.- Assisting the physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes by team collaboration- Responding to emergency situations to promote optimal patient outcomes by recognizing changes in the patient's health status.- Performing diagnostic studies within the scope of nursing practice as ordered by the physician.- Documenting patient data to ensure continuity in the provision and coordination of patient care.- Managing follow-up care.- Collaborating with other healthcare professionals and coaching colleagues in team building.- Communicating with veterans and family members regarding veteran's care.- Acting as a resource to others.
