The Kansas City VA is currently recruiting for a Health Technician to join the Primary Care Department. This position is located at the Cameron, MO Community Based Outpatient Clinic. This position is located at our Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC), Cameron, MO. The incumbent provides patient nursing care and program support/administrative duties. Duties include, but may not be limited to: · Makes initial patients assessment, checking vital signs, preparation of for examination and assistance with treatment procedures. · Maintains annual mandatory reviews and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. · Collects, labels and processes a variety of specimens (drawing blood by means of venipuncture, obtaining urine and other specimens). · Maintains laboratory equipment and controls supplies. · Performs electrocardiograms (EKGs). · Maintains exam rooms with medical equipment, supplies and forms. · Performs more complex patient care procedures such as catheterization, tube feedings, tracheotomy care and suctioning, collects sterile specimens, assists with respiratory treatments, dressing changes, ostomy care, catheter irrigations, weights, cares for patients in isolation, sets up and gives treatments that require auxiliary equipment such as oxygen, and calculates intakes and outputs. · Observes, reports, and records more subtle physical and emotional changes including reporting patients' complaints. · Identifies patients' teaching/learning and treatment needs including patient safety hazards and reports the same. · Initiates appropriate action in emergency situations such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), choking, etc. · Maintains appropriate skills for the care of the adult and geriatric population/patient. · Maintains appropriate safety documentation on equipment/refrigerator as directed. · Provides support to clinical personnel through taking messages; retrieving clinical information; scheduling appointments, tests, and procedures; notifying patients of appointments and arranging travel, check patients in and out. · Plans and coordinates daily work for team, assist with orientation of new employees. · Applies VA policies, procedures as they apply to an outpatient setting. · Displays effective written and oral communication skills and consistently responds to requests for assistance from patients and their family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.
