GENERAL SUMMARY: Under general direction of the Vice President of Nursing is responsible for operations management for nursing. Ensures quality and safe delivery of care to patients in the following ae groups: All ages; Neonates; Infancy; Toddler; Preschool; School age; Adolescent; Adult; Geriatric.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensures that areas of responsibility are effectively organized. Develops managers' ability to resolve interdepartmental issues.
2. Develops and secures approval of budgets and guides managers in the development of their budgets as necessary. Monitors capital and operating budgets to be in compliance with the targets. Identifies potential savings and coordinates their implementation with the appropriate departments. Develops key indicators in areas of responsibility and develops tracking mechanisms to measure appropriate data.
3. Ensures the development, implementation, documentation, and monitoring of ongoing quality improvement programs and teams in areas of responsibility. Evaluates the quality of patient care provided in collaboration with other members of management and medical staff. Takes or recommends action to improve services when necessary to ensure the provision of optimal patient care. Ensures compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency standards and guidelines.
4. Develops and implements business plans for new/changed services/programs. Conducts profit and loss analyses, volume and market share analyses, and financial pro-forma development for new program planning. Obtains, reviews, and analyzes data from Fiscal Services, MIS, Marketing, and other departments in the system to document new service levels and program changes. Participates in the planning and implementation of new or enhanced programs/services, including clinical, administrative, educational, and physical facility issues.
5. Hires and evaluates managerial personnel in conjunction with the Vice President of Nursing. When necessary, disciplines and discharges personnel. Develops managersâ�� ability to problem solve, initiate new systems, and work with their employees.
6. Resolves operational problems/issues. Participates in system-wide operational concerns. Develops systems to provide for cost effective allocation of staff resources according to patient care needs.
7. Assists in the preparation of contracts and agreements designed to assist in the implementation of the system's objectives and policies. Participates in negotiating and administering such contracts, when appropriate.
8. Serves as liaison to trust committees, medical staff and other departments in conjunction with Vice President of Nursing.
9. Remains abreast of developments in the fields of strategic planning, management, and administration.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1. Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of a Masterâ��s Degree in nursing.
2. Minimum of seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in various management and administrative capacities.
