The incumbent will be responsible to the Nurse Manager, Service Line designee or other nursing management with practice accountability to the Associate Director for Nursing/Patient Care Services. The Registered Nurse demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. The Nurse is a PROFICIENT nurse, 'who understand a situation as a whole because they perceive its meaning in terms of long-term goals. The proficient nurse learns from experience what typical events to expect in a given situation and how plans need to be modified in response to these events. The proficient nurse can now recognize when the expected normal picture does not materialize; decision-making is less labored. The proficient nurse considers fewer options and hones in on an accurate region of the problem". This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments, as there are many units that operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week or have special situations. The incumbent must be poised and articulate in communicating with people of varied educational levels and varied ethnic backgrounds. Willing to work cooperatively as a member of a team in all assignments. Makes caring for the Veteran his/her priority while in the work setting and demonstrates customer service principles in all aspects of work. Self-motivated in the pursuit of meeting professional work standards. Basic Life Support (BLS) required for RNs in direct patient care positions. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required in specific specialty areas.
