The North Florida/South Georgia Healthcare System is looking for an Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) to work in the Patient Care Coordination Unit (PCCU). The ANM is a registered nurse who demonstrates management and leadership skills. The ANM is accountable to the Nurse Manager (NM) and is responsible for delegated management and staff nurse functions. The Assistant Nurse Manager of the Patient Care Coordination Unit (PCCU) in Medical Service will join an advanced specialty team that provides a wide range of complex specialty services. The Assistant Nurse Manager will work amongst a team of specialty providers and nurses that are experts in 8 specialties: Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, Hematology/Oncology, Nephrology, Pulmonary and Rheumatology. Under the direction of the Assistant Chief of Medical Service and Unit Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager will be responsible for providing clinical direction to the nursing staff throughout the department. The Assistant Nurse Manager will assist department leadership with personnel management, staff education/training and evaluations, and performance improvement initiatives of the service line in accordance with organizational goals. The Assistant Nurse Manager will be expected to keep abreast and stay familiar with the national scheduling guidelines and hold the nursing team accountable to these directives. The Assistant Nurse Manager will assist with PCCU day-to-day operations, management, oversight of clinical and resource utilization, patient throughput, quality assessment, improvement, and patient/staff satisfaction. Duties to include, but not limited to: Responsible for the day-to-day managerial functions of the nurses within the Medical Service PCCU, under the direction of the Nurse Manager. Includes interviewing and hiring; counseling employees and follow through of the disciplinary process, with appropriate documentation, in accordance with VA guidelines; completing performance appraisals in a timely manner; assuring continuous coverage of surgical section and assisting with maintaining competencies. Effectively oversees unit operations in the absence of the NM. Develop, manage, and evaluate area based on work team performance. Demonstrates effective leadership and understands processes, procedures, standards, methods, and technologies related to surgical service. Act as clinical leader and facilitates education for staff on clinical standards; routinely provides guidance/coaching to subordinates/peers within medical specialties. Encourages growth of subordinates to the benefit of the agency. Assures that staff documentation is accurate and complete following the guidance of Directive 1230 Business Scheduling Rules. Consistently demonstrates sound judgment in conflict resolution skills and in daily decisions regarding overall unit operations. Actively pursues staff participation in performance-based outcome measures. Continuously evaluates standards of care and makes recommendations to improve compliance. Assures that all staff members complete mandatory TMS training and assists NM in certifying staff competencies. Supports shared governance principles by encouraging shared decision-making. Maintains staff confidentiality. Assists the Nurse Manager in providing an open forum for staff to discuss ethical issues and facilitates problem resolution through appropriate channels. Empowers staff, under direction of the Nurse Manager, to resolve problems and complaints/concerns independently at the lowest level. Demonstrates positive communication skills and behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers. Recognizes "best practices" in customer service; and uses customer feedback to continuously plan, provide, and improve services. Utilizes evidence-based practice to assist the Nurse Manager in implementing SOP's and performance improvement projects. Uses knowledge and demonstrates leadership in using available resources (services, equipment, and supplies) in collaboration with other departments and Nurse Managers to improve quality of patient care. Travel to secondary facility as needed for supervisor/administrative duties. The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.
