This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Some of the Clinics the incumbent would typically be assigned to, but are not limited to, are: Cardiology, Renal, Arthritis, General Surgery, Pain and Sleep clinic. The incumbent is responsible for RME and other equipment (stainless steel surgical instruments) specific to their clinic assignment, and for cleaning non-reusable medical equipment between patients per standard operating procedures. The incumbent is under the supervision of an RN and/or MD/DO/OD. The LPN provides technical nursing care to adult and geriatric patients. 1. Makes astute observations and thoroughly documents care and the patient's response. Appropriately seeks assistance and guidance by informing RN or medical provider of changes in the patient's condition requiring higher-level intervention. 2. Performs assigned nursing care responsibilities requiring the use of advance equipment, technology, or knowledge in procedures performed in the Sub-Specialty Clinics including but not limited to: a. Documenting obtained Vital Signs including pulse, blood pressure, respiration, temperature, pain level b. Completes clinical reminders for preventive health screening including mental health screening c. Takes appropriate actions for positive reminders d. Perform diabetic foot screening including visual screening, pulses and sensation e. Pulses: apical, carotid, pedal f. Height/weight. g. Administers influenza, pneumococcal and tetanus vaccinations per protocol. h. Refers patients to appropriate resources including social work, dietitian, speech pathology, SAC, smoking cessation and physical and occupational therapy after screening, i. Glucometer measurements j. Neurological vital signs k. Performing EKG l. Performing pulse oximetry, bladder scanning, post void residual m. Set up and administration of Oxygen therapy n. Adheres to standards of practice and safe technique in preparation and administration of medication o. Procures sterile and non-sterile specimen collection p. Applies elastic bandage, hose, and 4 layer compression application. q. Applies hot and cold non-sterile compresses r. Performs sterile dressings and irrigations s. Completes encounter forms t. Appropriately responds to and completes view alerts. u. Recognizes and successfully cares for patients of different ages, including young adult.
