Will Be Responsible For:
• Participation in daily inpatient rounding by taking patient history, conducting physical exam, reviewing laboratory and diagnostic
data, performing medication reconciliation, procedures, and computer order entry as appropriate. • Participation in daily
multidisciplinary round by contributing specific surgical perspective and promoting integrated comprehensive patient care
• Active team participant in mentoring and educating other team members
• Inpatient consultation and admission at the direction of the collaborating physician.
• Documentation of all patient encounters by computerized progress notes, brief operative note, procedural notes or
admission/consultation/discharge summary dictation
• Pre-operative patient evaluation and medical optimization• Evaluates and treats patients with acute, chronic, and surgical concerns
which include the following:
o Admission/consultation of patients at the direction of the collaborating physician
o Conduct medical history; performance of physical examination
o Collection, interpretation & recording of diagnostic clinical laboratory data
o Ordering, specimen collection & interpretation of all relevant laboratory/microbiological tests
o Ordering & interpretation of all relevant radiologic/US/MRI/NM studies
o Ordering, performance & interrelation of cardiac diagnostic testing
o Diagnosis of acute and chronic conditions affecting all organs systems
o Development of treatment plans
o Ordering medications
o Address the pharmacologic needs of patients by CPOE/written/oral methods
o Dispense & Administration of medications
o Performance medication reconciliation
o Formulating interventions and performing therapeutic measures to ensure the appropriate individualized plan of care is
implemented.
o Applying knowledge of age specific needs, (pediatric, adolescents, adult and geriatric) to plan of care interventions and patients'
responses to care

o Ordering/renewal of restraints
o Performance of rounds & recording of computerized written and/or dictated documentation of all patient encounters by
computerized progress notes, brief operative note, procedural notes or admission/consultation/discharge summary dictation

o Post-operative patient ICU and floor management
o Coordinating information flow among medical, ancillary, nursing, financial and insurance personnel
o Facilitate and direct BLS/ACLS measures as necessary
o Participation in Clinical & multidisciplinary rounds by contributing specific surgical perspective & promoting integrated
comprehensive patient care, & assisting with discharge planning
o Provide relevant patient education and counseling regarding heath status/test results/disease process & discharge planning
o Address patient psychosocial needs by assessing patient's functional status & evaluating patient's mental status by
Consultation/Referral to other health professionals & community agencies
o Assessing clinical factors including, but not limited to, immunosuppression complications, drug toxicity, infections complications
and risk rejection
o Coordinating care of recipient and/or living donor as needed
o Communicating frequently with referring physicians regarding the patient's status
o Perform any other clinical responsibility within the PA's level of training and scope of practice
o Assist the collaborating physician in any intervention in the interest of patient care/safety
o Functions fully within the Outpatient and Inpatient setting
o Providing on-call coverage for medical triage for outpatients in collaboration with the physician on-call
• Perform First/Second Surgical Assist duties within the OR setting and/or at bedside as program and surgeon direct which may
include but is not limited to:
o First & 2nd Operative assistant on cardiothoracic surgical and transplant patients
o Assist with Heart Transplantation, Lung Transplantation & Ventricular Assist Device surgeries
o Assist with Cardiothoracic Surgery including CABG, Valve Repair and Replacement, Aortic Procedures, Thoracotomy, Lung
Resections, and Central/Peripheral Vascular repair.
o Conduit Harvest, including greater and lesser saphenous veins and radial artery o Sternotomy & Sternal closure o
o ECMO initiation/weaning and cannulation/decannulation techniques
o Obtainment of informed consent for procedures performed by the PA
o Insertion of percutaneous/open chest tubes, arterial lines & femoral/axillary IABP, Fem/SC/IJ Central venous access, PA catheter
placement, transvenous pacer wires, and dialysis catheters
o Documenting, coding and completing diagnosis of patient's condition to facilitate appropriate insurance reimbursement.
• Post-operative patient ICU and floor management
• Call requirements will be rotational to include a 24-hour/7-day coverage system. Out-Of-House SICU & Floor call responsibilities,
Donor call organ assessment & OR call responsibilities
• Attends and participates in transplant team meetings including Patient Review Committee, hospital interdisciplinary rounds,
discharge planning and QAPI. Communicates with the transplant team in a professional and effective manner. Participation in
database & clinical research
• Participation in clinical research & actively participates in regulatory-related data collection and surveys agencies including but not
limited to:
Oversight and participation of regulated data reporting for regulatory agencies i.e. DNV, United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS),
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and Interagency Registry for Mechanically Assisted Circulatory Support
(INTRAMACS).
• Maintaining a current understanding of changes in respect to accrediting bodies
• Participating in preparation for regulatory surveys, such as UNOS, Medicare, and DNV
• Serving as an expert resource and point-of-contact on clinical and protocol-related issues
• Participating in the preparation of action plans in response to recommendations for improvement and deficiencies identified by
regulatory agencies
• Participating in mock surveys and self-assessments, focusing on continual readiness
• Providing in-service and continuing education for staff within the scope of the Transplant Program
• Performs additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by Assistant Director or
physician team.

Job Summary
The Physician Assistant (PA) supports the clinical operation of AdventHealth with primary focus on clinical services in the inpatient
and outpatient setting. Inpatient Responsibilities include: pre-operative admission, consultation, evaluation and medical optimization;
intra-operative 1st and 2nd assistance; post-operative ICU and floor patient care and discharge. Outpatient Responsibilities include:
pre & post Operative clinic; out-of-hospital patient clinical phone call management & out-of-hospital operative call-in. Delivery of
patient care will be conducted in collaboration with faculty surgeons and physicians.
Basic PA function includes, but is not limited to: conduct of relevant health & medical history; performance of physical examination;
collection, interpretation & recording of clinical data; ordering/specimen collection for/interpretation of all relevant
laboratory/microbiological tests; ordering/interpretation of all relevant radiologic/US/MRI/NM studies; ordering/performance
of/interpretation of cardiac diagnostic testing; Development of treatment plans, ordering medications; address the pharmacologic
needs of patients by CPOE/written/oral methods; dispense & administration of medications; activity level designation; performance of
rounds and recording of computerized progress/consult/procedure notes; participation in clinical & multidisciplinary rounds;
admission of patients at the direction of the supervising physician; obtainment of informed consent for procedures performed by the
physician assistant; consultation/referral to other health professionals & community agencies; provide relevant patient education and
